Michael Holmes and Alan have more pictures they may send. My plaque picture
may not be the best because of the flash reflection – maybe one of the others
will have a better picture – we were struggling trying to get a good picture

Congratulations to Alex Moiseyev, who retains
the state title.
All competitors played as one group, the
format was 7 Rounds of Round
Robin, using 3-move.
Master players used clocks (26 moves / 37
min, with 13 moves for each add. 18.5 min.) and recorded games.
$500 in prize money was awarded.
Contributions were received from Joe LoConti ($385 bid), Rich Beckwith (playing room charge), Michael
Holmes ($10), Alan Millhone ($10), Ted Williamson ($15).
Thanks also go to the
Hollidays for providing cookies to the players.
New Ohio Checker Association
officers were elected: President: John Acker, Vice President: Alan
Millhone,
Sec. & Treas. (now combined) Richard
Beckwith.
Treasurer’s report (Steve
Holliday) gave Ohio Checkers Association account balance of $687.44.
To commemorate his career
achievements (31 state titles and contributions as problem composer),
Louis Cowie was
honored with a special plaque, gift cards,
and humorous greeting card signed by the players, plus Louis’s tournament and travel expenses
were covered. (Donations received here by Don Deweber, Richard Beckwith,
Alan Millhone).
Alex Moiseyev prepared a
special booklet (with John Acker’s assistance) of all historical
Moiseyev-Cowie tournament games (38 pages annotated with
diagrams) to present to Louis. Additional booklet text may be purchased
for $10 with proceeds going to Ohio
Checker Association.
*Wenberg withdrew after 4th round, and
Holliday played rounds 5th thru 7th.
